Software Engineer, CLI
- Location
- Remote (Europe or Africa time zones)
- Type
- Full-time
Build the command-line tool engineers run on every branch, from the pre-push hook to the interactive shell.
About the role
The Afara CLI runs on engineers’ machines, next to git. It drives their AI coding tool through local analysis, keeps per-clone state in .git/afara, and installs a pre-push hook that has to be fast, offline and never in the way. We hold it to a high bar: clear output, predictable behaviour without a terminal, and no surprises.
What you’ll do
- Ship new commands and flags, from design doc to release notes
- Improve how Afara works with Claude Code, OpenAI Codex CLI and Gemini CLI
- Keep the pre-push hook offline and quick on repositories of every size
- Own the release pipeline: signed builds for macOS, Linux and Windows, Homebrew and Scoop
What we’re looking for
- You’ve built and shipped a CLI that other people depend on
- Deep familiarity with git internals: refs, upstreams, hooks, shallow clones
- Care for error messages. Every failure should say what to run next
Nice to have
- Experience with terminal UI frameworks
- Contributions to open-source developer tools
